Haiti Relief

As billions of dollars have been raised to help the victims
of the quake and rebuild Haiti, international financial
agencies are struggling to find the best way to use that
money to truly help reduce the level of poverty in this
poor nation. Human rights, the judicial system and focus
on the infrastructure, especially agriculture, should be a
part of any future plan if there is really a genuine desire to
help reduce poverty in Haiti.
As an experienced missionary society for nearly 100
years, the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers were within
hours of offering their assistance to the victims of the
devastating quake. “The need is huge and the way ahead
is very steep.” To help or learn more, please visit

A Prayer...
Lord God, months have now passed since the earthquake
that devastated Haiti. In that time many have reached out
to help, but the needs of this poor nation stretch on and
on. Help us to help, through our prayers, our donations,
our direct service, but most of all through our love and
care. May we serve you in the least of our brothers and
sisters, in Haiti, our own country and wherever we encounter
them. (Source: Living Faith, Daily Catholic Devotions)

Early this year, parishioners of St. Jerome generously donated $15,529 for victims of the Haiti earthquake.  The money collected went directly to disaster relief in Haiti.  Donations still may be sent to Catholic Relief Services:

Another Prayer for Haiti
God of all creation, as we weep with our family in Haiti, console us.
In this time of crisis, open our eyes to look beyond the disaster
to see Christ in our brothers and sisters in Haiti, as Christ sees us.
Be with us as we stand in solidarity with those living and working in Haiti.
Be with us in our mourning and guide our efforts to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, comfort the grieving and stand for justice.
With your mercy, sustain us at this time as we continue to work for peace and justice.
Amen.
