WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON AT ST JEROME?
Answers to FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
What is the "New Evangelization?"
It is the new direction of the Roman Catholic Church, calling on all Catholics to know their faith, live their faith, and share their faith.
What is the "Year of Faith?"
Declared by Pope Benedict XVI, it is a time for all Catholics to renew our commitment to Jesus Christ and his saving mission. It begins on October 11, 2012, and closes on November 24, 2013.
Why is there an emphasis on "Covenant" in our bulletin, on posters around the church, and at recent Sunday liturgies?
The St Jerome Evangelization Committee is reminding us of the "Covenant" relationship between God the Father and humankind, that began with the Hebrew people - the first to hear the Word of God - and culminating with God's self revelation in the person of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ - the New and Eternal Covenant - and how that Covenant should influence how members of the St Jerome Community interact with each other and the entire world.
What are the "Commissions" that have been publicized of late?
As part of the Evangelization Committee's efforts, and supported by our Pastor, the organizing of "Commissions" is part of a re-imagining of the St Jerome parish structure that is designed to facilitate better communication among ministries, committees, and councils, while increasing participation in parish governance as well as parish life.
What is the "Good News People Program?"
The root of all of the above - the call for a New Evangelization, the Year of Faith, the emphasis on Covenant, and the renewal of parish structure - is the perception that, throughout the Catholic world, our faith, or more accurately, the RESPONSE to our faith has become rather passive as opposed to active. A people that is "on fire" with their faith will more visibly live out their faith within the community and in the world. The institution of the "Good News People Program" at St Jerome is an opportunity to respond. Utilizing scripture, reflection, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Catholic teaching, this program will help us to live our faith more actively and openly in response to God's Covenant with humankind. It will help us to BECOME Good News People.
