The mission of the Prayer and Worship Committee of the Social Concerns Coordinating Team is to incorporate more intimately the social message of the gospel into the prayer life of St. Jerome parish, especially in the liturgical prayer of the community. Since it is in the moments gathered around the table of the Lord that the spiritual life of the parish is experienced, it is our goal to integrate the message of Jesus into this central action of our faith. To achieve this end, we will strive to work together with our pastor, the director of liturgy and, through him, the liturgy committee. It is the Eucharistic celebration where we will concentrate our efforts. Practical areas where we can begin to implement greater emphasis on the scriptural basis for the pursuit of justice are the homilies, the choice of relevant hymns, the prayers of the faithful and the offertory procession. Thus, social ministry may come to be seen as an essential task of the entire parish, and not just the province of a few.
